Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has launched an innovative rooftop solar initiative in Odisha under its flagship ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ campaign, aimed at making solar energy accessible and affordable to households across the state. With upfront costs starting as low as Rs. 2,499 for a 1 kW system and backed by central and state subsidies, the programme is designed to accelerate solar adoption among residential users.

In a significant development poised to reshape Mumbai's energy landscape, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL), also known as Mahavitaran, has formally petitioned the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) for a parallel licence to distribute electricity in Mumbai. The move would place the state-run utility in direct competition with existing private and civic distributors, including Adani Electricity, Tata Power, and BEST.

Tata Power has announced a leadership reshuffle as part of its strategic realignment toward clean energy. Effective June 1, 2025, Sanjay Banga—currently President of Transmission & Distribution—will assume the role of President-Renewables and also take charge as CEO and Managing Director of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has entered into a significant power purchase agreement (PPA) with NTPC Ltd to develop a 200 MW renewable energy project. This initiative marks a substantial step in TPREL's journey, as the project will increase its renewable utility capacity to 10.9 GW. Comprising solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS), the project aims to produce 1,300 million units of electricity annually and help mitigate over 1 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
