India’s formal employment landscape gained strength in July, as the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) added 20.36 lakh new members under its social security scheme. The latest enrolment figures highlight a steady expansion of the country’s organized workforce and underscore the growing footprint of social protection systems. A significant share of new registrations came from younger workers aged 18–25, signaling fresh entrants into the job market.

In a strategic move to enhance social protection coverage for India’s workforce, the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has launched the 2025 edition of its Scheme for Promotion of Registration of Employers and Employees (SPREE). Approved during the corporation’s 196th meeting, the scheme—active from July 1 to December 31, 2025—provides a one-time amnesty window for unregistered employers and employees, including temporary and contractual workers, to enrol under the ESI Act without facing retrospective penalties or inspections.

On April 17, 2025, Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will inaugurate a newly upgraded 220-bed Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital in Ranchi, Jharkhand. This facility is set to significantly enhance healthcare delivery under the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) Scheme. The upgraded hospital will provide speciality and super-speciality treatments, benefiting over 5 lakh insured workers and their families in the region. The inauguration also highlights the establishment of an ESI medical college with 50 MBBS seats.
