The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has solidified its position as the foremost importer of Indian mangoes, with shipments totaling 12,000 tonnes valued at USD 20 million in 2024, according to India’s commerce ministry. This milestone highlights robust demand for Indian agricultural produce in the Gulf region. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) hosted a dedicated mango promotion event in Abu Dhabi to bolster this momentum. Key mango-producing Indian states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh continue to underpin this export success, reflecting India’s growing influence in global fruit markets.

UAE: India’s Premier Mango Export Destination

In 2024, the UAE reaffirmed its status as the largest market for Indian mango exports, importing over 12,000 metric tonnes valued at approximately USD 20 million. This remarkable figure underscores the increasing appetite for Indian mango varieties among Middle Eastern consumers, driven by the fruit’s distinctive flavor profile and high quality. The commerce ministry’s data reveals that the UAE plays a pivotal role in sustaining and expanding India’s horticultural export footprint.

Strategic Promotion Efforts by APEDA

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), functioning under the commerce ministry, recently conducted a mango promotion programme in Abu Dhabi. This initiative forms part of a broader strategy to amplify Indian agricultural exports and strengthen trade relationships across international markets. By showcasing India’s diverse mango cultivars, APEDA aims to capture new market segments while consolidating existing demand in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.

Regional Mango Production Fuels Export Growth

India’s mango export volumes are primarily supported by key producing states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh. These regions contribute significantly to the supply chain, ensuring consistent quality and quantity to meet international standards. Investment in modern agricultural practices and post-harvest technologies in these states has further enhanced India’s competitive edge in the global fruit export arena.

Market Outlook and Implications

The strong demand from the UAE signals promising growth prospects for Indian mango exports, potentially unlocking further opportunities in adjacent Middle Eastern and international markets. With sustained government backing and proactive promotional activities, India is well-positioned to capitalize on emerging consumer trends favoring fresh, natural produce. This dynamic will likely contribute positively to farmers’ incomes and the broader agri-export sector’s contribution to India’s foreign exchange earnings.
