Japanese electric vehicle manufacturer Terra Motors has intensified its focus on the Indian market by launching the KYORO+, a new electric three-wheeler designed for passenger transport. Building on the success of its electric rickshaws, which have crossed 1.5 lakh units sold, the company targets a 5-8% share of the rapidly growing electric three-wheeler (L5) segment. Terra Motors plans to expand its dealer network to 100 outlets and boost production to 5,000 units per month. With a robust local manufacturing base and complementary EV charging infrastructure, Terra is positioning itself as a formidable player in India’s clean mobility revolution.

Expanding Footprint in India’s Electric Vehicle Market

Terra Motors, a leading Japanese EV manufacturer, unveiled the KYORO+ electric three-wheeler to strengthen its foothold in India’s burgeoning electric vehicle sector. While the company has already made significant inroads with its electric rickshaws (L3 category), having sold over 150,000 units nationwide, the new model marks its entry into the larger and more competitive L5 segment catering primarily to passenger transport.

The launch aligns with Terra Motors’ strategy to capture a meaningful share in the electric three-wheeler market, which currently sees annual sales volume of approximately 1.5 to 1.6 lakh units. “Our ambition is to secure a 5 to 8 percent market share in this segment,” said Go Suzuki, Managing Director of Terra Motors India.

Scaling Production and Dealer Network

To meet its aggressive growth objectives, Terra Motors intends to ramp up production capacity and expand its sales footprint across India. The company’s existing facility in Manesar currently manufactures between 5,000 and 10,000 L5 electric three-wheelers annually and produces an additional 3,000 units of electric rickshaws each year.

Suzuki revealed plans to scale monthly production of electric autos to 5,000 units while establishing a network of 100 dealerships nationwide. This expansion is critical to supporting the company’s ambition to provide reliable, sustainable transportation solutions to a growing customer base.

Driving Innovation and Commitment to Clean Mobility

Terra Motors’ CEO and founder, Toru Tokushige, underscored India’s strategic importance to the company’s global roadmap. “India represents our strongest commitment globally,” Tokushige remarked, highlighting Terra’s focus on continuous innovation with the goal of becoming a market leader in electric mobility.

The company’s integrated approach extends beyond vehicle manufacturing; it operates Terra Charge, a dedicated EV charging infrastructure division in India. This initiative aims to address one of the key challenges facing EV adoption—availability of charging facilities—thereby facilitating a smoother transition to electric transportation.

Outlook: Shaping India’s Electric Mobility Future

Terra Motors is positioning itself at the vanguard of India’s shift towards sustainable transportation. By introducing technologically advanced electric three-wheelers and enhancing its production and distribution capabilities, the company aims to meet rising consumer demand while contributing to the country’s environmental goals.

With a clear vision and robust investment in both vehicle innovation and charging infrastructure, Terra Motors is poised to redefine urban transport dynamics and support India’s ambitions for cleaner, greener mobility in the years ahead.
