OnePlus Deepens ‘Make in India’ Commitment with Optiemus Partnership for IoT Manufacturing

OnePlus has announced a strategic manufacturing partnership with Optiemus Electronics Ltd (OEL) to locally produce its Internet of Things (IoT) devices in India. The initiative marks a significant step in the company's Project Starlight—a localization drive aimed at reducing import dependence and fortifying domestic manufacturing. Production of the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z3 neckband has already commenced at a Noida-based facility. The collaboration is expected to increase component-level localization, lower production costs, and enhance supply chain efficiency, reinforcing OnePlus' commitment to the Indian market. Following the announcement, shares of OEL’s parent company, Optiemus Infracom, surged over 10% on the BSE.

Strategic Expansion of IoT Manufacturing in India

OnePlus’ latest collaboration with Optiemus Electronics represents a pivotal extension of its long-term strategy to deepen its roots in India’s burgeoning electronics manufacturing ecosystem. While the company has been assembling smartphones in India for several years, this marks a deliberate foray into local production of its broader IoT product portfolio—primarily True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbuds and wireless neckbands.

The first product to roll off the lines under this initiative is the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z3 neckband, now being manufactured at Optiemus’ Noida facility. This move signals OnePlus’ intention to diversify local production beyond mobile handsets.

Project Starlight and Supply Chain Localization

The partnership is aligned with OnePlus’ Project Starlight—an internal localization program aimed at boosting the company’s domestic production capabilities and reducing reliance on imported components. By localizing the Bill of Materials (BoM), OnePlus aims to bring down costs and build a more resilient supply chain tailored to Indian market dynamics.

This shift comes at a time when India’s electronics manufacturing sector is gaining global traction, backed by government initiatives such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes and a growing preference for domestic production among global brands.

Impact on Optiemus and Market Sentiment

News of the strategic tie-up led to a marked uptick in investor confidence. Shares of Optiemus Infracom, the parent company of OEL, rallied over 10% on the Bombay Stock Exchange, reaching Rs. 676.30 apiece by 2:30 p.m. This market response reflects optimism about future revenue streams stemming from enhanced production volumes and deeper integration with a premium global brand like OnePlus.

The partnership not only validates Optiemus’ technical and infrastructural capabilities but also places it at the forefront of India’s IoT manufacturing narrative.

Broader Implications for India’s Tech Manufacturing Landscape

This collaboration underscores the strategic importance of India as a manufacturing hub for global electronics brands. As OnePlus integrates local suppliers into its value chain, the move sets a precedent for similar initiatives from other international brands seeking to expand their footprint in India.

The deal also reflects a broader trend of vertical integration within India’s tech ecosystem, where brands are not merely assembling but increasingly fabricating high-tech components within the country—adding layers of value and innovation domestically.

Conclusion: Strengthening the Local Value Chain

The OnePlus-Optiemus partnership signals a significant leap toward self-reliant manufacturing in India’s tech sector. As the company diversifies its production line to include IoT devices alongside smartphones, it also takes a definitive step in fortifying its supply chain and optimizing costs. For OnePlus, this is not just a manufacturing upgrade—it's a strategic realignment that affirms India’s role as a critical node in its global operations.
