Mahindra Logistics Ltd. (MLL) has expanded its presence in Northeast India by inaugurating two state-of-the-art warehousing facilities in Guwahati and Agartala. This addition of over 4 lakh square feet of warehousing capacity is part of MLL's 'Go East' strategy, aimed at strengthening its logistics and distribution network in Eastern India. The Guwahati facility, spanning 3 lakh square feet, is the largest Grade-A multi-client warehouse in the region and houses the first Community Centre of Excellence in partnership with the Logistics Skill Council. The Agartala facility, covering 1.3 lakh square feet, is strategically located to enhance connectivity with neighboring states and facilitate cross-border trade with Bangladesh.
Strategic Expansion in Eastern India
Mahindra Logistics' expansion into Guwahati and Agartala underscores its commitment to enhancing logistics infrastructure in underserved regions. The Guwahati facility's strategic location near NH 17, Guwahati International Airport, and Mirza Railway Station provides robust connectivity to key industrial areas, improving operational efficiency. Similarly, the Agartala facility's proximity to key consumption and production centers across Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Manipur strengthens the company's regional distribution capabilities.
Community Engagement and Skill Development
Aligned with its commitment to community development, Mahindra Logistics has partnered with the Logistics Skill Council under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship to establish the region's first Community Centre of Excellence at the Guwahati facility. This initiative aims to provide skill development opportunities to the local workforce, fostering employment and contributing to the region's economic growth.
Employment Opportunities and Local Impact
The new facilities are expected to generate over 2,000 employment opportunities, with a focus on hiring 50% of the workforce from local communities. This approach not only supports regional employment but also ensures that the benefits of the expansion are shared with the local population.
Future Outlook
Mahindra Logistics plans to further expand its warehousing capacity in Eastern India, with the goal of increasing its total warehousing space from the current 19 million square feet to 30 million square feet. This expansion is expected to bolster the company's presence in key markets and enhance its ability to serve a growing customer base in the region.
