Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: Wife Sonam Raghuvanshi Allegedly Orchestrated Husband’s Killing Over Affair

The murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore native on honeymoon in Meghalaya, has taken a chilling turn as police investigations suggest his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, orchestrated the killing over an alleged extramarital affair with Raj Kushwaha. Sonam reportedly hired hitmen shortly after their wedding, leading to the arrest of Kushwaha and three others implicated in the crime. The investigation, spearheaded by Meghalaya police, revealed a complex web involving multiple suspects and a motive rooted in betrayal, as law enforcement continues to pursue Sonam, who surrendered to Uttar Pradesh police amid the probe.

Murder Investigation and Arrests

Meghalaya police have made significant progress in unraveling the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, whose body was discovered on June 2 after he went missing during his honeymoon. Authorities believe the motive stems from Sonam Raghuvanshi’s alleged affair with Raj Kushwaha. Police have arrested Kushwaha along with three others—Akash Rajput (19), Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), and Anand Kurmi—in connection with the murder plot.

Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed that Sonam planned and commissioned the murder shortly after marrying Raja. The accused allegedly carried out the killing on May 23 and fled the region. Initial inquiries were complicated by the lack of a missing person report and delayed discovery of the body, but a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was soon constituted.

Sonam Raghuvanshi’s Surrender and Police Pursuit

Following the arrests, Sonam surrendered to the Uttar Pradesh police in Ghazipur. Meghalaya police have dispatched teams to Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh to coordinate her custody and facilitate transit remand. SP Syiem indicated the apparent relationship between Sonam and Kushwaha, noting that her sudden emergence following Kushwaha’s arrest supports suspicions of her involvement.

The police maintain that connecting all suspects and analyzing communications will clarify the extent of the conspiracy. Sonam’s prior low profile during the investigation raised suspicions, with her reappearance coinciding closely with the arrest of Kushwaha and others.

Role of Raj Kushwaha and Other Accused

Raj Kushwaha, identified as Sonam’s employee, is believed to have played a pivotal role in the murder plan. According to Vipul Raghuvanshi, Raja’s brother, Kushwaha and Sonam maintained constant communication, raising questions about their relationship and Kushwaha’s complicity.

Alongside Kushwaha, other accused including Akash Rajput and Vishal Singh Chauhan have been apprehended from various locations, indicating a coordinated effort spanning multiple districts. Anand Kurmi was arrested in Basari village of Madhya Pradesh, further dismantling the network behind the crime.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The investigation remains active with police teams working to finalize charges and secure custody of Sonam Raghuvanshi and all accused parties. Authorities are examining the communications and movements leading up to the murder to establish a comprehensive case for prosecution.

This case has sent shockwaves through the region, highlighting issues of trust, betrayal, and violence within personal relationships. The unfolding legal proceedings will be closely monitored as Meghalaya police aim to deliver justice in this high-profile honeymoon murder case.
