India’s Under-19 cricket team, led by promising young talent Ayush Mhatre, is set to embark on a high-profile multi-format tour of England in June-July 2025. The 16-member squad features a blend of experienced performers and emerging stars, including IPL sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and several players who excelled in recent domestic and international youth competitions. The tour will comprise a warm-up one-day match, a five-match Youth ODI series, and two multi-day fixtures, providing a comprehensive challenge ahead of the 2026 Under-19 World Cup. This tour marks India’s continued focus on nurturing its future cricketing elite on global stages.

Leadership and Squad Composition

At the helm of the Indian Under-19 side is 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, whose exceptional debut performances with Mumbai and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League have earned him the captaincy. His leadership will be supported by vice-captain and Mumbai wicketkeeper Abhigyan Kundu, ensuring experience and youthful vigor guide the team.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old opener representing Rajasthan Royals, joins the squad as one of the youngest but most promising talents. Alongside him is Vihaan Malhotra of Punjab, with whom Suryavanshi has previously opened the batting, underscoring a developing partnership crucial for India’s batting depth.

Notable Players and Performance Highlights

Several squad members bring impressive credentials from recent youth competitions. Kerala leg-spinner Mohamed Enaan led the bowling attack in the two Youth Tests against Australia Under-19, claiming 16 wickets, while Punjab off-spinner Anmoljeet Singh took nine wickets in the series. Wicketkeeper-batter Harvansh Pangalia from Saurashtra stood out with a commanding century (117 runs) during the same tour.

Gujarat allrounder Khilan Patel, named Player of the Series in the Cooch Behar Trophy, will add depth with his left-arm spin and reliable batting. The squad also features emerging talents like Bengal seamer Yudhajit Guha and others from diverse regions, reflecting a well-rounded and geographically varied team.

Tour Itinerary and Strategic Importance

India’s Under-19 team will commence their England campaign with a 50-over warm-up match at Loughborough University on June 24. This will be followed by a five-match Youth ODI series, played across Hove, Northampton, and Worcester between June 27 and July 7. The tour culminates with two multi-day matches, first at Beckenham starting July 15, then Chelmsford from July 20.

These fixtures provide a vital platform for the squad to gain exposure to varied playing conditions and formats, aligning with their preparation for the 2026 Under-19 World Cup set to be hosted in Zimbabwe and Namibia. The team’s recent engagements, including hosting Australia Under-19s and reaching the Asia Cup final, underscore the continuity in India’s youth cricket development pipeline.

Future Prospects and Developmental Outlook

The selected players’ eligibility for the next Under-19 World Cup ensures this tour plays a pivotal role in consolidating team chemistry and individual skillsets. With the guidance of the Junior Cricket Committee, led by Thilak Naidu, the squad represents India’s commitment to fostering young talent capable of thriving on the international stage.

This multi-format tour not only tests cricketing prowess but also inculcates resilience and adaptability, key attributes for success in professional sport. As India’s cricketing future shapes up, the England tour stands as a critical milestone in the journey of these promising athletes.
