Radisson Hotel Group Expands East India Presence With Three New Property Deals

By Manbir Sandhu , 27 May 2025

Radisson Hotel Group has announced a strategic expansion in Eastern India through the signing of three new hotel projects—two in Jharkhand and one in Odisha. The development will add approximately 400 rooms to its national portfolio and aligns with the group's broader vision of tapping into high-potential, underserved regions. With five operational properties and eight in the pipeline across East India, Radisson aims to strengthen its footprint in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, reinforcing its position as a dominant player in both established metro markets and emerging destinations.

Radisson’s Eastward Push: Three New Projects Inked

In a decisive move to broaden its hospitality footprint, Radisson Hotel Group has signed agreements for three new properties in Eastern India. The expansion includes Radisson Blu Hotel Deoghar and Radisson Resort & Spa Ranchi in Jharkhand, and Radisson RED Puri in Odisha. Collectively, these developments will introduce 400 new guest rooms, contributing significantly to the Group’s presence in a region that is increasingly attracting both leisure and business travelers.

The additions are part of Radisson’s regional growth blueprint aimed at unlocking value in fast-developing, underpenetrated hospitality markets.

Growing Presence in East India

Radisson Hotel Group now boasts 13 properties in East India, including five operational hotels and eight currently under development. This latest expansion underscores the Group's confidence in the region's long-term potential and economic vibrancy.

According to Nikhil Sharma, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer for South Asia at Radisson Hotel Group, these deals represent “a strong testament to our commitment to expanding in high-potential markets across the country.”

Eastern India, while traditionally less saturated than metro hubs, is emerging as a focal point for tourism, religious travel, and corporate events. Cities like Ranchi and Deoghar offer strategic value due to growing connectivity and infrastructure development, while Puri continues to benefit from its status as a major pilgrimage and coastal tourism destination.

National Footprint and Strategic Vision

Globally recognized for its diversified brand offerings, Radisson Hotel Group now manages a portfolio exceeding 200 hotels in various stages of operation and development across India. The company has firmly established itself as the largest hotel operator in the Delhi-NCR region, while continuing to accelerate growth across tier-2 and tier-3 cities, which now account for over half of its domestic footprint.

This dual-market strategy enables Radisson to leverage both the volume of business travel in metros and the rising demand for quality accommodations in smaller cities. Such an approach ensures long-term stability and relevance across different market segments.

Hospitality Sector Outlook

The Indian hospitality sector has witnessed a significant rebound, bolstered by domestic tourism, infrastructural improvements, and a renewed focus on spiritual and heritage destinations. The inclusion of locations like Deoghar and Puri in Radisson’s development plans reflects a broader industry trend of capitalizing on localized travel demand and cultural tourism.

Radisson’s continued investment in East India also complements the government's push for regional tourism development and employment generation, especially in smaller urban centers.

Conclusion

With the signing of these three new properties in Jharkhand and Odisha, Radisson Hotel Group reaffirms its commitment to inclusive and diversified growth across India. The move not only strengthens its presence in East India but also highlights its broader strategy of integrating high-growth, non-metro markets into its expansion narrative. As domestic tourism continues to flourish and infrastructure advances, Radisson’s timely positioning in these regions sets a precedent for other global hospitality brands aiming to deepen their Indian footprint.
