Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), the hospitality arm of the Tata Group, has announced the addition of a new Gateway-branded property in the spiritually significant town of Nathdwara, Rajasthan. The 101-key hotel reflects IHCL’s strategic emphasis on expanding its presence in religious and cultural destinations across India. This latest signing strengthens IHCL’s footprint in Rajasthan, bringing the company’s total to 31 hotels in the state, including eight currently under development. By aligning its growth plans with rising spiritual tourism trends, IHCL continues to position itself as a leader in India’s evolving hospitality landscape.

Strategic Growth in Spiritual Tourism

IHCL's decision to establish a Gateway hotel in Nathdwara is rooted in a broader strategy to tap into India’s expanding spiritual tourism market. The town, revered for its centuries-old Shrinathji temple and deep-rooted Vaishnavite traditions, draws a steady stream of pilgrims and cultural tourists alike.

“Destinations like Nathdwara hold immense cultural and spiritual value. This signing is part of our focused effort to serve travelers seeking immersive experiences in India’s sacred geographies,” said Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate and Development at IHCL.

The move also complements India's post-pandemic travel resurgence, where spiritual and heritage tourism have become key growth areas.

Partnership and Project Details

The Nathdwara property, which will feature 101 guest rooms, is being developed in collaboration with Madan Singh Chauhan, a regional hospitality entrepreneur. The Gateway brand is known for offering midscale comfort with an emphasis on warmth and efficient service, aligning well with the needs of pilgrims and leisure tourists.

The project represents a shared vision to combine regional hospitality expertise with IHCL’s operational excellence. No financial details of the agreement were disclosed, but the development is expected to contribute meaningfully to the local tourism economy.

Strengthening Rajasthan Portfolio

With the inclusion of the Nathdwara hotel, IHCL’s Rajasthan portfolio now stands at 31 properties, reinforcing its dominant presence in one of India’s most popular tourist states. Eight of these properties are currently under various stages of development.

From heritage-rich cities like Jaipur and Udaipur to emerging religious destinations like Nathdwara, IHCL’s growth strategy is tailored to cover both luxury and midscale segments across diverse travel motivations.

The company’s strong foothold in Rajasthan is further bolstered by the Taj, SeleQtions, Vivanta, and Ginger brands, which together address multiple tiers of the market.

Outlook: Capitalizing on India’s Domestic Travel Boom

IHCL’s consistent expansion into tier-2 and tier-3 cities, particularly those with spiritual and cultural significance, underscores its long-term confidence in domestic tourism. As India’s middle class expands and connectivity improves, destinations like Nathdwara are poised to see increased footfall.

By situating well-branded hotels in these areas, IHCL is not only meeting existing demand but also shaping travel patterns for the future. This approach aligns with the company’s broader objective of delivering sustainable growth while deepening its brand resonance across India.

With this latest addition, IHCL continues its trajectory of measured yet ambitious expansion, reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of India’s hospitality sector.
