Maruti Suzuki Reports 7% Sales Growth in October, Driven by Festive Demand and SUV Segment Strength

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., the country’s largest carmaker, reported a 7% increase in total sales for October 2025, buoyed by strong festive demand and robust performance in its SUV portfolio. The automaker sold around 1.92 lakh units during the month, compared with 1.79 lakh units in October last year. Domestic sales rose steadily across key models, supported by new product launches and improved supply chain efficiency. With India’s automotive sector showing continued recovery and consumer sentiment remaining upbeat, Maruti Suzuki’s steady performance reinforces its dominant market position and its strategic push toward premiumisation and hybrid vehicle adoption.

Festive Demand Fuels Growth Momentum

October proved to be a strong month for Maruti Suzuki as festive season purchases, combined with improved availability of semiconductors and stable production schedules, lifted overall volumes. The company’s domestic passenger vehicle sales climbed to approximately 1.64 lakh units, up from 1.60 lakh units a year earlier.

Dealers reported healthy retail traction, especially in Tier II and Tier III cities, as festive incentives and flexible financing schemes encouraged new vehicle purchases. The timing of key festivals such as Navratri and Diwali boosted footfalls across showrooms, with many models witnessing waiting periods despite improved inventory levels.

SUVs and Premium Models Lead the Charge

A major driver of Maruti Suzuki’s October sales growth was its expanding SUV lineup, which continues to redefine the company’s market positioning. The Grand Vitara, Brezza, Fronx, and Jimny models contributed significantly to total volumes, helping the automaker strengthen its foothold in the fast-growing SUV segment.

The SUV share in Maruti’s overall portfolio has now surpassed 25%, reflecting the company’s successful shift from compact hatchbacks to more premium, feature-rich offerings. The compact car segment, which includes models such as Alto and S-Presso, recorded modest sales, while mid-sized hatchbacks like Baleno and Swift remained consistent performers.

Exports and Rural Sales Add to Gains

Maruti Suzuki’s export momentum continued in October, with shipments crossing 27,000 units, up from about 20,300 units last year—a rise of over 30%. Strong overseas demand from Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East contributed to this growth.

In the domestic market, rural sales also remained encouraging, supported by stable agricultural output and rising rural incomes. The company’s wide dealer network and targeted marketing campaigns in smaller towns have helped sustain its leadership in the entry-level and compact car categories.

Industry Trends and Outlook

The broader Indian passenger vehicle market has maintained a healthy trajectory, supported by rising disposable income, easing inflationary pressures, and pent-up demand from previous quarters. Industry analysts expect total automobile sales in FY2025–26 to grow in the mid-single digits, with SUVs and hybrid vehicles driving future expansion.

Maruti Suzuki is expected to benefit from this trend, given its focus on product innovation and localization. The company has been increasing its investments in hybrid and compressed natural gas (CNG) technologies, aiming to balance cost efficiency with sustainability in its long-term strategy.

Strategic Outlook and Future Plans

Looking ahead, Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce multiple new models over the next 12 months, including advanced hybrid vehicles and its much-anticipated electric SUV under development. The automaker’s management has emphasized a dual strategy of expanding in both premium urban markets and value-driven rural segments.

With consumer demand stabilizing and macroeconomic indicators improving, Maruti Suzuki appears well-positioned to sustain growth momentum through the next fiscal year. Its October performance signals not just a seasonal uptick, but also a deeper structural recovery across the Indian automotive landscape.
