CJ Logistics Corporation, a South Korean global logistics leader, has increased its stake in its Indian subsidiary CJ Darcl Logistics from 50% to 56% through a strategic investment of USD 32 million (approximately Rs. 272 crore). The move is part of a broader effort to fortify the company’s financial base and accelerate its expansion across India’s rapidly evolving logistics landscape. The capital will be deployed to enhance multimodal infrastructure, embrace digital supply chain solutions, and foster sustainable logistics through alternative fuel platforms—aligning with India’s aspirations to modernize its supply chain architecture and support economic growth.

Strategic Capital Infusion to Drive Next-Gen Logistics

CJ Logistics Corporation’s latest investment marks a significant deepening of its commitment to the Indian logistics market. By raising its ownership in CJ Darcl Logistics to 56%, the Seoul-headquartered company signals its confidence in India’s logistics sector as a core pillar of its Asia-Pacific growth agenda.

The Rs. 272 crore infusion—structured as a blend of primary and secondary transactions—will be used to boost CJ Darcl’s capital reserves. The funding will support strategic priorities including expansion of warehousing capacity, development of multimodal transport terminals, digitalization of supply chain services, and adoption of green energy logistics solutions.

Strengthening India Operations: Scale Meets Sustainability

CJ Darcl Logistics has already built a robust nationwide presence, operating through nearly 200 branches and serving over 2,000 customers across sectors. The fresh capital is expected to further scale the company’s integrated logistics offerings and operational capabilities.

KK Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of CJ Darcl, emphasized that the investment will help the company scale its next-generation logistics infrastructure while advancing sustainability. “We are creating a future-ready logistics enterprise that blends Indian depth with global excellence,” he stated, highlighting the firm’s vision of synergizing domestic market knowledge with CJ Logistics’ international best practices.

A Growing Partnership Since 2017

The relationship between CJ Logistics and Darcl began in 2017, when the South Korean firm initially acquired a 50% equity stake in the Indian logistics company. That strategic partnership eventually led to the rebranding of DARCL Logistics to CJ Darcl Logistics Ltd, reflecting the integration of the global and local identities.

While CJ Logistics now holds a majority 56% stake, the remaining 44% continues to be owned by the Darcl founding promoters and their affiliates. This structure preserves the entrepreneurial legacy of the Indian partner while embedding it in a global logistics framework.

India at the Core of CJ Logistics’ Global Expansion

The timing of the increased investment aligns with India’s broader logistics transformation, driven by government infrastructure investments, rising e-commerce penetration, and increased demand for integrated logistics solutions.

“India is entering a transformative era in logistics and remains a cornerstone of CJ Logistics’ global strategy,” said Gwon Woong Kim, head of CJ Logistics’ APAC headquarters. He added that deeper collaboration with CJ Darcl will enable the delivery of high-efficiency, tech-enabled logistics services tailored to India’s evolving supply chain needs.

Future Outlook: Riding the Wave of Logistics Modernization

As India positions itself as a global manufacturing and export hub, modern logistics infrastructure becomes a critical enabler. The CJ Darcl investment exemplifies a growing trend of multinational logistics firms deepening their presence in India, seeking to ride the wave of supply chain modernization.

With fresh capital, enhanced digital capabilities, and a clear commitment to sustainable logistics, CJ Darcl is poised to strengthen its position as a key player in India’s logistics evolution. The move not only reinforces India’s attractiveness as a strategic investment destination but also underscores the growing interdependence between local expertise and global scale in shaping the future of logistics.
