Bajaj Auto Posts 3% Sales Growth in July, Driven by Strong Domestic Demand

Bajaj Auto Ltd. recorded a 3% year-on-year increase in total sales for July 2025, buoyed by steady domestic demand and a moderate improvement in export performance. The Pune-based two- and three-wheeler manufacturer sold 3.42 lakh units during the month, compared to 3.32 lakh units in July 2024. While motorcycle sales remained robust, the commercial vehicle segment also delivered a positive showing. This moderate yet meaningful growth reflects sustained consumer confidence in the Indian mobility sector, even as overseas markets continue to face macroeconomic headwinds.

Solid Monthly Performance Reflects Market Resilience

Bajaj Auto’s total sales for July 2025 reached 3,42,235 units, registering a 3% rise from the 3,31,278 units sold in the same month last year. The modest uptick reflects the company’s ability to maintain volume momentum in a competitive and evolving market environment. The performance was supported by stable demand in key urban and semi-urban centers, where two-wheeler ownership continues to serve as an affordable mobility solution.

The company’s product portfolio, with a strong mix of commuter and premium motorcycles, helped maintain market traction amid fluctuating fuel prices and inflationary pressures.

Motorcycles Continue to Power Growth

Motorcycle sales, which account for the lion’s share of Bajaj Auto’s business, saw a 4% year-on-year increase. In July 2025, the company sold 2,95,499 motorcycles, up from 2,84,442 units a year earlier. This growth was largely driven by demand in the 100cc–150cc commuter segment, with marginal upticks in the premium category as well.

Recent product refreshes and aggressive marketing in Tier II and Tier III cities have helped boost customer engagement, especially in value-driven categories. Dealer feedback reportedly indicates strong retail off-take, aided by improving rural sentiment and the gradual easing of monsoon-related disruptions.

Commercial Vehicles Register Minor Decline

Sales of commercial vehicles stood at 46,736 units in July 2025, a slight dip compared to 46,836 units in July 2024. While the numbers remain broadly stable, the slight contraction reflects continuing softness in some export markets and logistical constraints affecting freight movement in select geographies.

Despite the marginal fall, Bajaj Auto’s commercial vehicle segment continues to retain a leading market position in the three-wheeler category, both for passenger and cargo variants. Industry insiders suggest that targeted incentives and the growing demand for electric three-wheelers could support volumes in the coming quarters.

Domestic vs. Export Performance

In the domestic market, Bajaj Auto sold 2,08,019 units in July 2025, reflecting a 9% growth over the 1,91,482 units sold in July 2024. This highlights resilient urban demand and improved sentiment in semi-urban belts. Meanwhile, exports fell by 6% year-on-year, with 1,34,216 units shipped overseas compared to 1,39,796 in the previous year.

The decline in exports is attributed to geopolitical uncertainties and currency volatility in several key African and Latin American markets. However, company officials remain optimistic about a gradual rebound as trade routes normalize and inventory levels stabilize.

Strategic Outlook

Bajaj Auto’s steady sales trajectory in July underscores the company’s adaptability in navigating demand-side challenges and operational bottlenecks. As India’s two-wheeler market continues its recovery, Bajaj is expected to benefit from its strong brand equity, lean manufacturing model, and a deep dealer network.

Looking ahead, the company’s focus remains on expanding its electric vehicle portfolio, optimizing export logistics, and launching new models across price segments to capture untapped market opportunities.

Conclusion
Bajaj Auto’s 3% sales growth in July may not appear dramatic, but in a volatile global environment, it signals stable operational performance and consumer trust in the brand. While domestic demand remains strong, a revival in exports will be key to unlocking higher growth in the quarters to come.
