Adobe’s Shantanu Narayen: India’s Economic Future Lies in Creativity, Not Code

At the WAVES 2025 event, Adobe Systems CEO Shantanu Narayen outlined a compelling vision for India’s economic trajectory, asserting that creativity—supercharged by artificial intelligence—will soon eclipse traditional coding as the nation’s primary growth driver. With over 100 million content creators and a booming digital ecosystem, India stands poised to capitalize on AI-powered tools that unlock new avenues for innovation, expression, and productivity. Adobe has committed to training over 20 million Indians and 500,000 educators in digital creativity, signaling a strategic pivot toward fostering creative talent. The company also announced a collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services to open a new AI-powered creative studio.

Creativity as the Catalyst of India’s Next Economic Leap

Shantanu Narayen, CEO of the Silicon Valley-based software giant Adobe, delivered a transformative message in Mumbai: India’s next era of economic growth will be fueled not by lines of code, but by creativity powered through artificial intelligence. Speaking at the WAVES 2025 forum, Narayen emphasized how rapidly evolving AI technologies are redefining what it means to innovate, produce, and compete in a digital-first economy.

“India’s strength has long been in software services, but the future lies in scaling human imagination,” said Narayen. “Creativity will be India’s new engine of growth.”

This pronouncement arrives at a pivotal time when India’s IT services sector—valued at over USD 250 billion—is looking to transition from traditional outsourcing to high-value digital solutions, automation, and AI integration.

Investing in India’s Digital Creative Workforce

In alignment with this vision, Adobe announced a bold initiative to upskill over 20 million Indians and 500,000 educators in digital creativity. Through partnerships and free access to its tools and platforms, Adobe aims to democratize the ability to create, design, and express in the digital space.

This move reflects the rising demand for creative professionals and digital content in India, particularly as the country witnesses a 10% year-on-year growth in freelance creators and boutique design firms. Adobe’s commitment is expected to not only empower creators but also boost the economic potential of India’s burgeoning digital gig economy.

AI as the New Creative Infrastructure

Narayen underscored how artificial intelligence is redefining creative workflows, enabling faster ideation, personalization, and execution. AI, he argued, will not replace creativity but augment it—enhancing human imagination and offering tools that were previously inconceivable.

By leveraging large language models (LLMs), AI agents, and low-code platforms, Indian firms can shift from traditional IT outsourcing to AI-powered digital transformation. These new tools are expected to help companies rapidly prototype, test, and scale services tailored to regional and cultural nuances.

Moreover, by training AI on Indian historical, linguistic, and cultural datasets, Narayen highlighted an opportunity to forge digital sovereignty—building AI tools that are culturally resonant and strategically independent.

Content Creation Boom: India’s Silent Revolution

India is witnessing a creative revolution at scale, driven by affordable mobile internet and an ever-expanding digital consumer base. Currently, over 500 million Indians consume OTT content on mobile devices, creating a fertile landscape for creators, marketers, and tech firms alike.

Narayen pointed out that over 100 million content creators operate in India today, ranging from influencers and vloggers to educators and digital artists. This ecosystem is maturing quickly, supported by world-class mobile infrastructure and India’s leadership in digital payments.

For companies like Adobe, this shift represents not only a market opportunity but a chance to shape the very tools and platforms that drive modern creativity.

Strategic Collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services

In a move that reinforces Adobe’s deepening commitment to the Indian market, the company announced a strategic alliance with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to launch the AI-powered Creative Experience Studio (ACES). This initiative is designed to serve both private enterprises and public sector organizations in India.

The ACES studio will provide businesses with end-to-end creative solutions—from content creation and personalization to marketing automation—integrated with Adobe’s AI and analytics platforms. It aims to help Indian enterprises compete on the global stage through innovation-driven storytelling and user experience design.

Conclusion: India’s New Economic DNA—Creative, AI-First, and Global

Shantanu Narayen’s remarks offer a clarion call for India’s digital future. As the global technology landscape pivots toward creative intelligence and AI-first platforms, India is uniquely positioned to lead—not just as a service provider but as a creative superpower.

Adobe’s investments in talent development and AI infrastructure, paired with India’s demographic dividend and digital ecosystem, could very well redefine how nations scale innovation. The message is clear: the next billion-dollar ideas may not be coded—they may be imagined.
