Chhattisgarh Bets Big on High-Tech: Semiconductor Revolution Begins in Nava Raipur

In a significant leap toward becoming a hub for advanced technology, Chhattisgarh laid the groundwork for its first semiconductor manufacturing facility in Nava Raipur. Backed by a Rs. 1,143 crore investment from Chennai-based Polymatech Electronics, the project aims to establish the city as the “Silicon Valley of Chhattisgarh.” The plant will produce Gallium Nitride (GaN) chips crucial for powering next-generation 5G, 6G, and even 7G technologies. With a proposed production capacity of 10 billion chips by 2030 and a broader Rs. 10,000 crore investment plan, this move is set to redefine the state’s industrial and technological landscape.

Foundation Laid for Chhattisgarh’s First Semiconductor Unit

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai officially launched the state’s first semiconductor manufacturing initiative by laying the foundation stone in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar. The facility, to be developed by Polymatech Electronics, will span 1,50,000 square feet, marking a milestone for the state’s ambitions in electronics manufacturing. This is the first tangible step toward transforming Nava Raipur into a high-tech manufacturing zone, echoing aspirations to emulate Silicon Valley in India’s heartland.

Polymatech to Invest Rs. 10,000 Crore in High-Tech Fabrication

At the inauguration, Eswara Rao Nandam, Managing Director and CEO of Polymatech Electronics, announced plans to invest Rs. 10,000 crore in Chhattisgarh. The initial outlay of Rs. 1,143 crore will fund a fabrication plant dedicated to producing Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductor chips, a cutting-edge component central to 5G, 6G, and emerging 7G networks. The proposed plant aims to reach a production capacity of 10 billion chips by 2030<, supplying critical components to sectors such as telecom, consumer electronics, data transmission, and power management.

Nava Raipur: Poised to Become the Silicon Valley of Central India

As per the Chief Minister, the vision for Nava Raipur is to become a national hub for semiconductor innovation and high-end electronics manufacturing. The state government has embedded special incentives in its new industrial policy to attract tech-focused investments. "Technological revolutions define economic transitions. Developed countries have always accelerated growth by embracing innovation. Chhattisgarh must do the same," said Sai. He further highlighted the future-readiness of the region, stating that "chips required for 6G and 7G will now be manufactured by Indian engineers, right here in Nava Raipur."

Streamlined Government Support Accelerates Industrial Setup

What sets this initiative apart is the rapid response from the Chhattisgarh government. Following investor engagement with Polymatech officials during a December event in Delhi, the administration allotted land in Sector 5 of Nava Raipur within 45 days, followed by lease registration in under 25 days. This efficiency reflects the BJP government’s commitment to fast-tracking high-tech industrial development through seamless coordination between state bodies and private players.

Strategic Policy Measures to Drive Long-Term Growth

According to Rajat Kumar, Secretary of the State Commerce and Industry Department, Chhattisgarh’s new industrial policies are tailored to boost high-tech infrastructure, offering incentives that rival more established manufacturing destinations. The objective is not merely to attract capital but to create an ecosystem conducive to innovation, R&D, and skill development. Appointment letters were handed out to local youth during the ceremony, indicating the government’s focus on employment generation through technological advancement.

Conclusion: A Semiconductor Future Rooted in Central India

Chhattisgarh's entry into semiconductor manufacturing comes at a time when India is pushing to reduce dependency on global chip imports amid rising geopolitical uncertainties and supply chain vulnerabilities. By enabling domestic production of GaN chips, the Nava Raipur plant could play a pivotal role in securing India’s technological sovereignty. The convergence of strategic investment, government initiative, and a skilled workforce suggests that Chhattisgarh may well emerge as an unexpected leader in India’s semiconductor revolution.
